Heat oil until hot. add sausages. cook, turning once or twice until well browned on all sides, about 5 minutes. remove from pan. cool, then cut into slices ¼ inch thick.
Add onions, cooking until well browned. in bowl, mash ½ can beans. add broth, mashed and whole beans and sausage. simmer, partially covered, 20 minutes. let stand 10 minutes.
